Our Story

Our journey began in 1985 when Dewi, Pero’s managing director, faced a challenge with his dogs being reluctant to eat any of the available mainstream brands in the 1980s. Determined to find a solution, Dewi took matters into his own hands and started blending his own natural dog food, which became a huge hit with his dogs.

1982

Dewi started developing his own dog food, as his own dogs were reluctant to eat any available brand at the time.

1983

The recipes became available to the local community.

1985

Pero was born.

1986

Pero starts hitting the shelves

1986

Pero launches it’s now popular Chicken & Rice and Fussy Eater recipes

1987

Our white label service, for large agricultural stores is launched.

1990

Pero launches improve Puppy recipe.

1993

Pero partners up with North Wales Police to supply food for their pups during their first 10 weeks of training.

1995

Pero sponsors a dedicated team of dogs and handlers from the British International Rescue Dog Unit.

1997

Pero sponsors 15 year old Wendy Stevenson of Prestatyn, who achieves third place at Crufts with her team of border Collies.

2010

Jonathan Rees joins Pero as Director, to assist Dewi with Pero’s developments and operations.

2011

A Pero recipe specially made for Staffordshire Bull Terriers and other bull breeds is launched.

2013

Our own brand service for small businesses is launched.

2015

Pero is rebranded, and our packaging is modernised.

2016

Truline, an Ultra Premium range for Cats & Dogs, is launched.

2018

Truline wins the first of many brand of the Year awards for best Dry Dog Food.

2023

After operating at Betws y Coed for over 40 years, Pero moves to a much larger facility in Penygroes, Gwynedd.

2023

Pero agrees to manage and distribute two new brands, Goldline and Trophy pet Foods.

2024

Pero agrees to manage and distribute Little Chef Pet Bakery products.
