Volume 2

Now to the business end of matters, race season approaches. Training will be awkward at best, heads will not be focused on the game, pairs on the gang line will have to be carefully selected. Boys will argue over the girls who will encourage them, girls will square up to each other, and nobody other than me will be concentrating on the job at hand, getting fit.
We are the current British Champions and we will be representing team GB at the European Championships, which is conveniently hosted in the UK this year. The Europeans being in the UK is a blessing. And far too simple. Oh yes.
This year the British Championships rather than being one weekend event are being split up into 3 weekends of two individual events each. So rather than training up specifically for a single event, it is now spread from November to March and takes place in various locations across the UK from Scotland to Norfolk. It’ll be a good challenge and since we maintain the dog’s fitness well through the year it will suit us, but the logistics and extra expense will not be enjoyed.
Twm the Siberian Husky was born a week too late to take part in the Europeans. Ela is not a Siberian husky (she’s actually Czech) and Merlin is too old. So because Cheffy will be with the pups if plans fall into place, in order to race the bikejor plus 6 dog we qualified for we will need to borrow a dog. Introducing a dog than can both match the pace of my team and will get on and work with them is not simple. We have options but none ideal- from young inexperienced dogs to 9-year-old father of the majority of my racing team. He’s great and phenomenal for his age but he’s busy racing in Germany the week before on a friend’s team.
No doubt all will fall into place this season, but simple is not how it will be. Did I mention I’ve also qualified for the World and European age group triathlon championships this/next year? That’s a whole load of swimming, biking and running I’m going to need to be doing…
Maybe the only thing that’s simple is me?
